Part I   Review AAR Basemap Homework. SOCIAL PERMACULTURE : decolonizing permaculture, food sovereignty & empowering minorities. Anti-oppression intro. Communities and Village Design, Intentional Communities, Communes, Urban and Suburban Revival, Next Community Revolution, Barter System, Urban Permaculture & Community.

Walking tour of the surrounding Kingston area.

PartII  WHOLE SYSTEMS DESIGN - Applying lessons to projects/ business/ communities.  Site Analysis, Contour Layout and Swale Use In Land and Water Conservation. Design Concepts and Processes, Developing our Awareness, Designing From Nature, Design, Zones and Sectors - Sun, Wind, Fire Angles - Site Analysis

PRACTICAL : Quick Design of possibilities for Kingston land trust community property 

DAY 5 - SUNDAY SEPT 1ST:

PartI  First Impressions of the Property, Documents and what we need,  Landscape Components, Asking the Right Questions, Getting the Whole Answer, Interview Techniques, Owner/ community Requirements and wish list, Site Analysis Checklist.

Part II  Design Document Preparation, Presentation Techniques, Project Management.
 WHOLE SYSTEM DESIGN - Continued, Followed by Work-in-Progress Design Presentation

PRACTICAL:  Design model Economic- Ecological and Social + World view sectors of KLT property 

PRACTICAL HW: Add Economic- Ecological and Social + world view sectors to your base map.  FINISH KLT DESIGN.

partI Appropriate & Alternative Technologies, Rocket mass heaters, Cobb oven, Hand pumps, Gravity fed systems, Compost heaters, Alternative Energy For a Home, Community, Village: Solar, Wind. Water - Passive Solar, Geo-Thermal Energy Storage and Extraction, Solar Hot Water Panels and Storage, Super Insulation, Cool Cupboards, Trombe Windows, Active Solar, Solar Trackers

PartII  Alternative Building Techniques and building regulations- Post and Beam, Frame, Rammed Earth, Stabilized Mudbrick, Short Log, Domes, Yurts, Cordwood, Flitches, Straw Bale, Earth-Ships

PRACTICAL : get our hands on clay & dirt with some work around share-stead 

DAY 7 - SUNDAY, SEPT 22ND:

PartI  Soils basics & fertility management - Ph, N, P, K Balance and Testing – Trace Minerals – MULCH – COMPOST – Soil Amendments & Rehabilitation – Erosion Control and Land Forming – Worm Farming – Green Manure Crops

Sustainable Animal Systems and their integration into the total landscape design. These include: chickens, hogs, etc .. Free range systems, rotational grazing, grazing within food forests, and more

PartII Food Forest Plant ID, Plants in Permaculture, Species Selection for the Northeast, Cover Cropping; Crop & Tree Mulch, Intercropping, Plant Stacking, Tree Guilds, Creating an Edible Forest Garden

PRACTICAL HW: Add posible technologies to apply to your BASEMAP.   and SET YOUR GOALS! followed by  BEGIN YOUR FINAL DESIGN.

Where Do Your Resources/Food Come From and What’s in it? CSA and Co-ops, Why Does The Average Market Basket Travels 2600 Miles? Why is the word “Organic” tainted? Organic vs. Permaculture vs. Biodynamic Farming what is the difference? Different forms of capital, SEEDS. 

PRACTICAL :  seed saving & adding community organizations and different forms of capital to our mental map.
